Bruce Maxwell Art
About
Kia ora,
Art and creativity have been with me since I can remember. As a child I was always drawing and sketching.
Creating images has been a constant thing for the majority of my life. I did watercolours of birds in my teens at school to surfing images and landscapes in oils and acrylics. The majority of my work now, is in acrylics, but I do enjoy multimedia pieces.
My inspiration comes from the world around me especially the land and my ancestry.
I am a self taught artist.
I have a mixed heritage, Māori (Te Arawa, Ngati Rangiwewehi) as well as European on my mothers side (Scottish/english). Learning more on my Māori side has been an integral part of my work for the last 15 years.
Over the years I have been involved in many group shows and have won an award for a work in 1993. I had a solo show in 2020 “MaurI drawings of discovery” and one in 2022 “Kōrererorero”
My art is about my journey through life. The past, present and possibly the future. It is about old and new, ancestry, nature and spiritualism and many other things.
I have a background in graphic/multimedia design.
I currently reside in Hamilton, New Zealand.
My work is varied, but so is life, this is my journey.
Enjoy
